PWM internship or Angel Investment Network internship for freshman summer at Target?
Please help me decide between a PWM internship, or an international internship at an angel network (think: Singapore Angel Network, Hong Kong Angel Investment Network) subsidized completely by my school's summer global program. This is for freshman summer, and my end goal is to go into MBB or BB IBD.
Also, is an angel network internship viewed the same way as a VC one to employers?
is the PWM at a BB
No, but I'm sure I can get an unpaid PWM internship at a BB if I look for them. I haven't reached out yet- would having a BB PWM change your answer?
Hm, so I'd say that if it is at a well known place, a PWM internship FRESHMAN year summer will put you incredibly ahead of the average person strictly resume wise for BB IBD/MBB in your junior year.
However, its your freshman year, and honestly, making decisions solely based on that might be a mistake, so if you can go abroad and have a kick ass time while doing an Angel network internship that sounds pretty good too.
Not sure if I can give you more advice than that, as I'm just a few years out from where you're at now, but hopefully someone sees this and can add some more insight.
Suits is an awesome show, and strategy is incredibly interesting – I like you already!
@ OP – as a freshman, anything you do is a plus. PWM is not a rite of passage or anything of that nature that you have to go through by any means, so don't stress yourself out. If your end goal is BB IBD, something in angel network/vc is viewed just as well as PWM, especially if you're just a freshman. You're already at a target university and are obviously further ahead than most (being on WSO already..), I wouldn't worry.
My suggestion is to take the summer program, because it sounds like a great experience in a foreign country, and to pursue sophomore summer programs when the time comes, because that will put you in a better position for junior year summer SA and eventually FT. You're a freshman, so you may still change your mind re: IBD/etc, but that's my 2c because it sounds like one hell of an experience.
Thanks so much for the feedback! In case I don't find a PWM internship at a BB after cold calling, would the angel investment network internship be a better choice over a run of the mill PWM internship hands down? Or would there still be any deliberations?
And in case I do get a PWM BB internship, should I still choose the BB PWM if I only care about my resume and not about "having a kick ass time?" I do think the international internship will be a lot of fun (plus living costs and rent will be subsidized), but I don't know if the tradeoff is worth it! Also, by Target I mean Harvard/Yale/Princeton/Wharton, idk if this extra info matters.
