S&T vs Commodities?
hi all. Im wondering what the differences are in terms of skillset and day to day work.
I have been shadowing an options trader the past few months where I was able to learn from him by asking questions and getting his feedback on my charts. But I am looking to see if I can transfer this experience into a career so that I can maybe oneday start a hedgefund.
I saw an interview with someone who used to be in S&T and she made the example that one day she made "X million dollars" for her firm. I was under the impression that S&T was a Market Making role where they move the market? If its "trading" like some college kids try with their pocket money, has there been people that try to leave S&T to run a personal account full time and potentially make more money? Also, how is the learning in this space? I assume when you come in there is a training where they might teach some key indicators to work with but obviously you dont become a millionaire trader from just that, so how exactly would you "learn" sales and Trading, if that makes sense?
In commodities trading I know there's the physical part as well the trading electronically (how most people trade on robinhood, interactive brokers, etc). How does the learning work there? Do you learn from books and feedback from superiors or is it more from trial and error and if you mess up to bad then your done even though you were still learning?
Thank you in advanced for those reading and commenting!
