What gym do you go to?

I'm from a small town in the midwest and am used to going to 24 hour fitness to get a workout in. I will be doing FT in NYC and would love to hear any good gyms people like. Also curious about gyms in SF as well!

The few that have been mentioned to me:

Equinox (I think too costly for me, ~3k/year or about $200-250 a month

Crunch ($105-140/month)

New York Sports Club ($100/month)

I'm not a powerlifter, but I like a gym with at least bench presses, squat racks, dumbbells, cable machines, and so forth.

Curious to hear if BBs tend to have in the building gyms and how much membership costs would be there if anyone knows!

Don't sleep on Blink gym in NYC. It is owned by Equinox parent company as the discount offering. Monthly membership fees were $25 for Manhattan locations. You pay an extra $10 if you lock in a 12 month membership but are able to use all locations, and you pay another $5/10 for unlimited towel use. They are all over Manhattan, and all of the locations will have squat racks and bench presses and full set of dumbbells. Accessory equipment are the only things that may be different in different locations. At that price point, they were always crowded during busy hours and the showers/locker room are no frills, but it is a great bargain if you just need a place to lift and don't need or want to pay for the sauna/manicure/yoga room/classes at premium clubs.

Lifetime fitness on the West Coast. I pay $165 / mo but I use nearly everything there.

Morning lift / swim / shower and when there isn't covid, steamroom with shaving cream and free razors. The free razors are decent too.

Equinox is for people that really like to be seen at Equinox. I'd go check out Crunch, NYSC, Blink and a few others once you move there so you can see what they have (most will give at least one day or one week free to check it out). For me, it's also important that I have something close to work and home so that may play a factor in your selection as well.

I like NYSC so far - they just recently updated a lot of their gyms and the price point is far better than Equinox. If there was a Blink closer to me though, I would probably go there. I also get a discounted corporate membership at NYSC which makes it more worth it ($60 for all locations better than ~$100). Tbh I think Equinox overcharges for the services they actually provide but if you have the money to spend, go for it.
