Movies That Make You Say "Wow, literally me"
Title explains the gist, here is the list:
-
Wolf of Wall Street (Jordan Belfort obvi)
-
Drive (2010)
-
Bladerunner 2049 (2017)
4.
5.
-
Flight
-
The Big Short (Jared Vennett)
Lmk what you would add. And for all the nerds out there, ig you can call them films.
i just knew drive was going to be on that list.
The Passion of the Christ.
Any Batman movie
Fuck, I forgot to add those (prolly takes 4 and 5 spots)
Buffalo 66
Hunchback of notre dame
Brokebac--
uh....Gladiator!
Fracture
So you were cheated on and killed your spouse ? And how could I forget the Carrera GT
haha good memory, but was thinking of Ryan Gosling’s role rather than Anthony Hopkins. That was a sick car. I remember the sound of it.
Frank: Oh yeah? Well, I was hunted once. I'd just came back from 'Nam. I was hitching through Oregon and some cop started harassing me. Next thing you know, I had a whole army of cops chasing me through the woods! I had to take 'em all out--it was a bloodbath!
Charlie: That's 'Rambo', dude.
Frank: What?
Charlie: You just described the plot of 'Rambo'.
Dennis: Yeah, and come to think of it, that's not the first time you've described your life in the way of John Rambo's life.
I will never understand the glorification of Jordan Belfort. The movie was entertaining, but he is largely a scumbag.
I like it because he is literally me
You enjoy scamming people and lying to obtain profits for yourself?
The fact that he’s clearly unrepentant makes the whole thing so irritating. If he were repentant then I’d see the benefit to his story. But the average viewer walks away from Wolf of Wall Street and finds that, on balance, fraud and theft and decadence and depravity are good.
Yeah I don't understand it. It's like Ocean's 11. Yeah it is a good movie, but I'm not going to say that I want to be just like the casino robbers or that I am just like the casino robbers.
Well said. I concur, his life to me was just crash and burn. I rather have the long term growth of winning.
I think its a mix of Jordan Belfort in real life being charismatic, people falling all over Leo, and most people don't understand whats going on in that film finance wise, they just see the big house and the hot wife.
Nightcrawler
True. Forgot to mention American Psycho too fuck me
how did you forget patrick sigma bateman man...
Five different, but relatable moods:
1. Grit / Hunger - Godfather Part II (Vito story)
2. Serendipitous Romance - Before Sunrise
3. Lads Send / Friendship - Superbad
4. Disdain for Society - Fight Club
5. Familial Focus - About Time
fight club - surprised this hasnt been said yet with the amount of people are sick of working in banking and leave to do something completely left of field (maybe not become a terrorist but you get the idea)
True, selling soap would be a vibe
Hasn’t been mentioned? Did you miss the whole “IB to MMA” thread? lol
hasnt been mentioned on this thread mate
Commando, I too have dropped my enemies off a cliff
Kevin Spacey in American Beauty. "I want the job with the least amount of responsibility"
Loved it when he started lifting and his wife was lowkey pissed
John Wick (1-4)
Good Will Hunting
Casino Royale
Blade Runner 2049
...
(I want an AI gf)
Friday Night Lights - used to identify w/ the players and now beginning to identify more w/ the 40yo alcoholic father who peaked playing HS football
Margin Call
Let me guess - you’re Simon Baker?
Surprised no one said "Sex and the City"
I met “Mr. Big” (Chris Noth) at Radio Bar in NYC and he was a total dick and wouldn’t do a picture. Meanwhile all the 20 year old chicks surrounded him and loved him. He later flew NYC to SFO that week and my sister was flying the plane, met him, and said he was very nice. Go figure.
Ben Affleck in The Company Men. Seriously underrated movie. Currently re-recruiting and watching this movie every few days has been motivating even though a good chunk of it is sort of depressing.
Having gone through a sizable time period where I was unemployed, I felt his nervous energy. Especially those interviews where the interviewer makes it sound like you'll get an offer / later round interview soon but completely ghosts you. Had a good amount of those before I got an offer when I was unemployed (embarrassingly enough, I was unemployed during arguably one of the hottest job markets - late 2010s. In retrospect, my resume was a mess and I should have sought help sooner. Ended up being underemployed for about 1.5 years once I finally landed a job through a contact).
Johnny Football Netflix doc
whiplash
Oppenheimer
You see I ate too much spicy food that day.
Feel like throwing monkey shit but in a positive way based on this comment
Depends on context and mood:
- Solo mode: Neil from Heat
- Dealing with poisonous women: Cary from Your Friends & Neighbors
- Family dynamics; Tony Soprano
- Strategic thinking: Michael Corleone
How has no one said The Devil Wears Prada?
Living in NYC and doing highly detail oriented tasks under significant pressure from fastidious bosses? That’s my whole life? That’s basically the model of the entire IB profession (NY or not).
Agree! Watched it the first time in high school. Can relate more after working for a few years...
Great movie, watch it everytime it is on.
hans landa
but without the politics
Kind of felt I saw myself a little bit in Peter Quill/Starlord from Guardians of the Galaxy, if that makes sense.
blood diamond - 2006
Flight - with Denzel Washington, minus the airplane part(unless it is a metaphor)
