Starting position and expectations for a new US resident
Hello everyone,
I've been recently notified that I will be getting a green card (probably in a year or so) from my family so I can finally move to the US! Although it is a dream come true, I'm a bit scared about the uncertainty of leaving my country, a stable job, friends, and what not, but most importantly about how am I gonna do professionally speaking once I get there.
Long story short: Born and raised in Chile, did my undergrad in Ohio State (major finance. GPA 3,4, several leadership positions and awards) as an international student, got back to Chile and got a job in a public accounting firm (not big4) in transaction advisory (currently a manager), just finished my masters masters in finance at one of the top universities here, and a CFA level II candidate. I'm about to turn 30 (don't know if that matters, just throwing it out there).
Although I'm not exactly sure what I want to do with my life (hopefully not work for an accounting firm), I'm hoping to get a job in asset management, corporate finance, IB or anything finance-specific related.
What would be a position for my considering my resume? What could I expect as a salary? Would my resume so far get me to a decent job in these fields? How should I look for a job and where? What else can I do to improve my resume?
PS: planning on getting an MBA (hopefully at a top school in 2 yrs). Also, moving with my girlfriend who doesn't speak english, so she will be studying while I work there.
