2025 SA questions/planning
Hello all, for the past few months I've been lurking on this forum trying to learn about different career paths I've also been going to some things at my school to just learn a little bit about finance and what I'd do in that field and such so I can be prepared for the future. So I currently have a 3.6 gpa can get this up to 3.7. I attend a non target but still academically strong school. not really apart of many clubs and no internship freshmen-sophmore summer or in general. Also I am non-diverse and not gay. I also am not really working this summer just doing some babysitting for kids I met when previously working at different day camps. I am also taking 2 summer courses and I'm gonna probably focus on learning valuable office skills like Microsoft office so I can get an internship next summer. I know my number's and odds aren't great and while I'm fully prepared for recruiting season to be full of rejections. I think that if I grind I could definitely get good internships and a top IB job maybe not of college but definitely down the line. So enough about me here are my questions1. What's the best interview/technical guide out there and the best modeling guide (can the two be bought in the same package2. How does one reach out to smaller boutique regional banks or industry specific banks to network and internship search-I'm having trouble finding a consistent database for this thing and if there is a database that people use to find networking opportunities I'd love to use it3. Is a finance/business related field necessary for recruiting or can I just take some classes in accounting/business. I am currently an engineering major. Since I have ap credits and my major requires a business related minor I took financial and managerial accounting along with micro macro and financial economics.4. I want to do IB or management consulting but since my major is actually very math focused (taking multivarible calc and linear algebra next sem) would I have a better shot at recruiting for a sales and trading role- at the end of the day, I'm a very flexible person and can make any situation good and become interested in any so what job I work doesn't matter in the sense that I can become interested in anything I want.5. To learn excel/PowerPoint is linkden learning good enough to get those skills to a good level. Also if anyone has a linkden course they liked or could be good let me know cuase it's free through school so I might as well do it.
I’m not reading all that
Bruh can u at least space them out.
1. Read rosenbaum since you are not a finance major and not part of any finance clubs or investment funds. Guides are just for people who already understand those concepts get a feel for question format
2. You email them. No database, use google
3. For a non-target and a sub 3.9 gpa? Yes. U can network ur way out of it tho.
4. Maybe but doubt it would be material. Better shot at prop trading which is a different crowd.
5. Excel and PowerPoint have been around for decades. Even YouTube is good enough to learn them sufficiently
