The standard required to work in a global macro hedge fund

I'm a top Global Macro Analyst at a very well respected and well known investment research company.
My aim is to join a macro hedge fund. The dream is to one day end up in a risk taking seat.
How do I make the transition into becoming an Analyst at a global macro hedge fund?

I have been completely surprised by the incredibly high standard required to become an Analyst at these places.

I'm not getting even a look in for Analyst positions.

I keep getting pigeon-holed into strategy roles.

What could I be doing wrong?

I'm trying too. I think one of the main issues is just there aren't as many macro funds as there are L/S, plus even if they're considered a macro fund, the majority of seats aren't actually investment analyst seats. For example, I know there's one fund where the team runs a multi billion $ book and it's literally just a PM and one analyst.

I doubt you're necessarily doing anything wrong, it's really just that competitive. Unfortunately for us who are passionate about macro, the industry is now more attractive than it has been for the past 10 years pretty much.
