REPE to Hedge Fund with RE Coverage

Has anyone made this pivot before? Recently, I have had a bunch of headhunters reach out to me about pivoting to hedge funds where I would be covering REITs. I think the pros are it would potentially make me a more well rounded RE investor and of course the upside is nice. Downside is that you don't like it and waste 1-2 years of your career.

Curious on if anyone here has gone down this path and has thoughts to offer?

You might not become better at investing at the asset level, but you would gain a much stronger understanding of valuing RE companies. If you wanted to become someone that acquires REITs or RE companies, I think working at a HF could potentially add to my asset level experience by providing me with more of a corporate level view.

Also, let's say one day you create your own fund - wouldn't it be attractive to investors that you can invest at both the asset level and in REITs?

Could also just be totally wrong, so curious to hear more views.

Do you have a sense of his comp? I was quoted like 150-160k base and anything from 100% to like 300% bonus depending on team and personal performance.
