Transitioning out of Corporate Finance - Recommendations

So I've noticed there have been a few threads regarding the difficulty in transitioning from CF to ______ position, but I am looking for more of a recommendation on what position to transition to out of CF to get to the position I want to be in, as there are multiple paths (take into consideration both the difficulty of making the transition, and the relevance of that position to my end goal).

For background info, I am a 4th year undergraduate student in Canada, and I am completing an internship for a company which seems very promising in granting me an experienced hire visa to one of their offices in the USA (where I want to move after graduating). The company is an international, privately held engineering firm, and I am currently a project management student, working mostly with my office's controller/finance manager. I believe I would be able to work in the finance department after graduating, despite being a project manager currently. Since it is hard to get a sponsorship, I find this a very attractive opportunity despite not being in my desired field.

My career plans are to end up on the buy side, investing in real estate and/or businesses (real estate development/investment, REPE, PE). I hope to work for myself as well, or at least be a part of the top management of a firm - I would say I am more entrepreneurial (I don't plan to climb the ranks of a large firm for my whole career, I hope to start my own company). As of right now, I plan to gain relevant experience in these fields, then start using the money I've earned and connections made to start investing myself.

Tl;dr What fields are viable transitions out of Corporate Finance, that would provide ample experience to confidently invest in real estate and/or operating businesses, after working for a number of years?
