Welcome Bonus / Signing bonus - VP level

Potentially considering an offer from a smaller shop, $30B fund, VP level.

Given the period,I believe that there is some ability to ask for a signing bonus or something similar (by another name perhaps) to compensate for this and make the hit less financially onerous in the short term.
How does this work? And how much can I realistically ask at this level?

A portion of my 2023 bonus roughly? More? Less?
