Ops transiton to RE Investment Management/PE

I just got an offer for an ops position. I wanted to get your insights on how and if it would be easy to transition myself into RE Investment Management or PE after the program. I come from a non-target.

Does Ops leave me at a dead end and if it does what can I do to get out of it?

OPs will give you no help at all for RE, there are some similarities between ops and property management but no one is going to hire you on the investment side for that. I was in a similar situiation, the only way ops helped was the bank name.

All the firms that invested before the crisis are underwater, there hasn't been much investing after the crisis b/c sellers and buyers can agree on price, new funds being raised all run extremely lean. There aren't many opportunities right now in RE. Ops now will give you a salary now, maybe in a year or two you can enroll in a MSRE and then make the transition. If money isn't a problem, then you should forget ops and look for something that will let you see how investments are made even if it's unpaid.
