Compensation and Stability in Asset Management?
For those of you who are working in the asset management industry, what has compensation looked like for you at the analyst, associate and VP levels?
How has career stability and progression been for you and peers? Are most jobs 2 year programs like in IB or have most of your entering class been able to move upwards over time?
Thank you

Just an observation - not an industry guru nor seasoned professional.
Stability - very stable (relatively), normally well working teams don't have too much turnover. Exceptional talents move out to set up their own shop. Basis for stability - most (I'm guessing not the top tier names like D&C, TRowe, Wellington) are aiming for 51%+ hit rate. This is an easy target or a hard target depending on how you look at it.
Progression - much less defined. I think general hierarchy structure goes from: Analyst > Senior Analyst > Junior PM > Senior PM > (broader: US Equities, International Equities, Growth/Value) Strategy Heads. Normally seniority is articulated by the number of years in the industry. Analyst with 8 YOE, Senior analyst with 12 YOE or w/e.
Compensation - really depends on the firm, type of fund, etc. but generally somewhere between IB and ER (SS).
Hard to compare how one's entering class have fair simply due to sheer lack of employment opportunities available in generic LO AM. It's relatively cushy job with good pay and similar to Professors in colleges, rooms generally only open up when folks retire. That on the job title progression, but based on what I hear, comps get adjusted for YOE and the more successful an individual is, the more leverage they have during yearly reviews for higher raises.
Hope this helps, but I'd wait for more seasoned professionals to chime in for more accurate figures.
